Frequently Asked Questions.
Choosing a wedding photographer isn't easy. There are lots out there to choose from with different pricing, packaging and options. With so many styles to choose from how do you know where to start?
We'll start by offering you a complimentary wedding consultation. We'll get to know you, find out what you like, how you met and see if we click (excuse the pun!).
What should we do if we don't like having our photograph taken?
It may surprise you to know that most people don't like having their photographs taken. It's a very personal thing. This is why when we give you our complimentary engagement shoot, you'll get to know what works and put your mind at ease that we are the right photographers for you. We'll guide you as to what looks good and what to avoid. The best photographs are taken when you're distracted and concentrating on each other rather than the camera so we try to do just that by making you laugh ensuring you have a great time and a memorable session together.
What should we expect on the day?
We'll turn up early. Well prepared and ready to go. We will capture the emotion, memories and pure joy of the day as it happens. With just the formal photos you want to be included. We'll blend in with your guests and capture the magic unseen and otherwise missed. People always say of us that it's more like having friends there with a camera than a photo shoot.
How far in advance should we book if we want you to shoot our wedding?
To avoid the disappointment of us being unavailable for your wedding, It's recommended to book at least a year in advance if not 18 months to 2 years. However, occasionally we may still be available on your chosen date so please give us a call to enquire. Booking in advance will ensure you have time to work with us and get to know what I do plus I'm here to help you with the planning and recommending other suppliers etc.
What's the method for booking and payment?
Once you've decided that we are the photographers for you, (usually after the complimentary engagement shoot) we will send over a contract for our wedding services and a full invoice with a minimum 30% wedding booking fee of the total balance to be paid. Once this is complete your booking will be complete in our diaries. We won't take any other inquiries or bookings for your date. We ask couples to pay the balance within 8 weeks of the wedding date.
Are you Insured?
We are fully insured with coverage for liability and indemnity. We also carry backup cameras, memory cards, batteries, and other equipment to ensure complete peace of mind.
What about Copyright?
The photographer always retains the copyright as the creator of the images. We grant you a printing license included in the package price, allowing you to print your images as you please, wherever you see fit. We'd hope you'd use us though as our cameras, lenses, computers, and printers are all calibrated to ensure the highest print quality. We also love to share your amazing images with magazines, online blogs, and within the venues (unless you'd rather we don't in which case this is fine also).
How long have you been capturing weddings?
We have been taking pictures for over 20 years years now with the last 11 as professional photographers. We shot our first wedding in 2008 for a friend and immediately got hooked.
About how many photos do you take at a wedding?
For a full day's coverage, I aim to deliver the couples at least 300 - 400 pictures (depending on your package), but it depends on the length of the coverage. I shoot lots but only choose to deliver the highest quality images from the day.
What do you photograph during the day?
For me, when shooting a wedding, it's the little things that make the day special, just as much as the big things matter. Like the vintage shoes that were a perfect fit as soon as you tried them on, the welsh cakes that your aunt made as favours for your guests or place names that your best friend sat and helped you do over a large bottle of wine! The cake topper that's just so YOU! When it comes to family portraits the images I like to shoot are candid, capturing the true personality of you and your family rather than staid stationary traditional pictures.
What type of pictures do you take at a wedding?
Whilst primarily we are documentary-style reportage photographers and as such the pictures will take you back to the feelings and events of the day, capturing the detail and raw emotion from your wedding celebrations. We also do formal and staged pictures. We try to limit those to no more than half an hour to 45 minutes max (guests tend to get cranky if you keep them from their food!!) We are there for you though to get all of the photos you want so please don’t hesitate to ask if there is something specific you would like.
How long does it take to receive my images?
We'll aim to deliver the first 50 images within 24 hrs. The rest of the images will be completed within 6 weeks. This is because we hand-edit all images ourselves. Sometimes it can take less time depending on the time of year. Our philosophy is that the editing is just as, if not more important than the actual documentation and the final images take time to craft and produce.
What and where have you studied?
We are constantly learning and studying and In the past couple of years, We have made an effort to learn as much as possible from as many different specialists and professionals. Technology, techniques, and trends change all the time and it's important to keep up to date and keep our finger on the pulse. We've been lucky enough to study with Canon Explorer of Light Mentor, Roberto Valenzuela in Frankfurt, renowned Headshot Photographer Peter Hurley in London, and Wedding photographer Damian Lovegrove amongst others.
What areas geographically do you cover?
We have (and will) travel all over to capture your special day memories. Locations we've photographed before including Carmarthen, and Swansea. Somerset, Bristol, Newport, Caerphilly, Weston and the south coast and even completed a few London Weddings. Destination weddings are also available with reasonable expenses covered.
